Going on assignments for clients is probably the greatest thrill in any working photographer's career. This is the time that they will be challenged to their utmost. While professional photographers come well prepared to continue performing in the most unexpected of circumstances that they will inevitably always find themselves in, there is no substitute for experience.... and a generous dash of good luck. Rarely can missed shots be retaken. Hence the wisdom of "Come early and stay late".
Guaranteeing that the customer will get the product they wish is the basis of our contractual agreement with any client. Film management, ample coverage to accommodate editing needs and protection of exposed films are our main concerns. Naturally, super shots are rarely "point & shoot" affairs. Rather, considerable time may be required to capture certain images at their best. Therefore, we use a sliding price scale to permit the time in the field to be extended without duly exceeding the customer's budget needs.
Each and every assignment is different and therefore no guidelines as to costs can be given until after the goals of the assignment are clearly defined. What we can say is that we do not charge a fixed per-day-rate but adjust it depending on difficulty and expenses anticipated. However, oftentimes the most cost-effective arrangement (from the client's point of view) is to provide the anticipated expenses and a bonus for the images received. That way the photographer does not have to inflate their price to buffer against unknowns as is the case if asked to give an exact figure to supply specific images.
Being supportive of the photographer's needs to get the desired shots and maintaining flexibility throughout the assignment always results in the customer getting the best and most images at the very lowest possible price. And to insure that there will be no disappointments at the end of the assignment, we maintain daily contact with the client while in their employ. As in life, one usually gets what one pays for. We trust that our rates are competitive and pledge to always give the client our very best effort.
Hoping that we may be of service to you.
Sincerely,
Chris Miles
